Implementation of the Australian Curriculum

Illustration of a map of Australia with cogs in it

Overview

State and territory curriculum and school education authorities and non-government sectors and schools determine the timeline and approach to implementation of the Version 9.0 Australian Curriculum. They will determine when and how the Version 9.0 Australian Curriculum will be delivered in their schools, in line with systems and jurisdictions policies and requirements. They make decisions about the extent and timing of take-up and translation of the intended Australian Curriculum into the curriculum that is experienced by students.

The Australian Curriculum can be used flexibly by schools according to jurisdictional and system policies and schedules, to develop programs that meet the educational needs and interests of their students as well as ensuring that schools extend and challenge students. Schools implement the Australian Curriculum in ways that value teachers’ professional knowledge, reflect local contexts and take into account individual students’ family, cultural and community backgrounds.

Schools develop teaching and learning programs that meet the needs of their students either directly from the Australian Curriculum in some states and territories, or from curriculum websites incorporating the Australian Curriculum in others.

More information about implementing Version 9.0 Australian Curriculum in each state and territory can be found below. In some states and territories there is one point of contact for all sectors and others have sectors specific contacts.
